WHAT IS INFRARED SAUNA POD THERAPY?
Remember the last time you were sunbathing with sunscreen? Were you still hot? Of course you were because the sunscreen only stops the UV (Ultraviolet) light from hitting your skin. The far infrared heat (Far infrared light waves) penetrates your skin, giving you that wonderful natural warmth. Don’t confuse it, however, with ultraviolet light (UV), which causes sunburn and damages your skin.
Infrared light is the invisible part of the Sun’s spectrum, which has the ability to easily penetrate human tissue. When this happens, it creates a natural resonance, which has many beneficial properties. You can be exposed to far infrared heat for hours and it will never cause your skin to burn. Far infrared heat is completely healthy and safe for all living things. In fact, it is so safe it is used in hospitals to warm newborn infants.
Infrared Sauna Pod Therapy assists in detoxification, weight loss, pain management, cardiovascular health, skin purification and stress reduction. Aside from all of these incredible benefits, white blood cell production is increased, aiding in strengthening the immune system, and buffers are re-balanced promoting more regular biorhythms and a healthy sleep pattern. As your body is reset, many ailments become problems of the past as the body repairs itself from the inside out.
Infrared heat can also provide relief to patients suffering from arthritis, joint pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and certain skin conditions. Our full spectrum therapy heats the body and penetrates deeply into joints, muscles and tissues, speeding oxygen flow and increasing circulation. On top of all of this, your body metabolism is stimulated during treatment, which burns up to 600 calories with each Infrared Sauna Pod session.

INFRARED SAUNA vs TRADITIONAL SAUNA
Infrared heat is effective at a more comfortable operating temperature than traditional saunas (100°-180°F for infrared vs. 200°F for a traditional sauna). Unlike traditional saunas, Infrared Saunas penetrate your body at a cellular level while traditional saunas only heat the air around you. By penetrating human tissue deep below the skin, radiant heat activates an abundance of natural healing properties. Infrared heat has been found seven times more effective than traditional saunas at detoxifying the body.
What Is the Difference between Near, Mid and Far Infrared?
In a nutshell, the various infrared wavelengths precisely target health goals by offering a wide range of benefits. As you can see in the chart (below), Near, Mid and Far Infrared each provides its own special benefits:
NEAR INFRARED BENEFITS | MID INFRARED BENEFITS | FAR INFRARED BENEFITS |
|
|
|
NEAR INFRARED
Near infrared waves have a shorter frequency range and penetrate the epidermis layer of the skin. This effect makes it a safe and optimal choice for skin rejuvenation, wound healing and skin health. Near infrared technology used in our Pods is similar to the infrared used in cosmetic and healing devices, producing comfortable, consistent near infrared without extreme heat.
MID INFRARED
Because mid infrared wavelengths penetrate deeper into the body, they are beneficial for increasing circulation. So much so that mid infrared therapy mirrors the benefits of a passive cardiovascular workout! Regular mid infrared sauna therapy has been shown to significantly stimulate blood flow – its effects continuing on even after the sauna session is completed.
FAR INFRARED
Far infrared therapy penetrates the body up to ten inches past the epidermis. It raises your core body temperature and produces a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where most toxins reside. Far infrared also aids in blood pressure reduction & weight loss, burning up to 600 calories in one 35-minute session!
DON’T DELAY, START SWEATING TODAY
Most infrared saunas only offer far infrared heat. Because of the proven benefits of the different spectrums of heat, Slate Infrared Sauna Pods use technology that provides the full spectrum of near, mid and far infrared at optimal wavelengths.
When visiting Slate, you can be sure you’re investing your time and resources wisely. It’s the most beneficial relaxation treatment you can do for your entire well-being.
WHEN WILL YOU START TO SEE BENEFITS?
You will notice some benefits right away, like an increase in energy level, a healthy glow in your skin and a feeling of being stress free. After a few sessions you may notice benefits like weight loss and skin rejuvenation. Much like a workout routine, if you go to the gym once a month you shouldn’t expect to see a drastic difference but if you are going multiple times in a week you will notice a difference much quicker.
By implementing use the use of an infrared sauna pod session into your weekly routine you can help your body rid itself devastating toxins, all while just relaxing for 35 minutes.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR SAUNA POD SESSION
Each sauna pod session at Slate is a 35 minute sweat session where you lay in a cocoon like pod and sweat away toxins, stress, and weight. When you arrive you will be asked to sign a waiver by one of our trained Technicians. Once you are checked in they will escort you to your sweat suite and go over how to use the pod, if you have any questions please be sure to ask them. They will then exit the suite and you will change into a disposable “bunny suit” before getting into the pod to begin your sweat session. The sweat suites are individual luxury private rooms that are dimly lit.
Once your session begins you will gradually start getting warmer and begin to sweat. Our technicians will check on you about 10-15 minutes into your sweat on your first sweat. They will ask if you need any water, or need to increase/decrease the intensity level. At the end of your session you will hear a beeping/buzzing sound to let you know your session is over.
Once you feel ready to exit the pod (we recommend lying there with the dome pushed up for a minute to get your heart rate down) you can shower or change back into your clothes and head to reception area. We recommend only a very quick hot shower or not showering after your session to allow your pores to stay open and continue flushing toxins. We have water at the front for all clients, but recommend bringing a water bottle so that you can stay hydrated during your sweat.

Why should I sweat?
In today’s hectic world, we are exposed to a multitude of toxins that break us down from within. We are all exposed to hundreds of chemicals every day in the air we breathe, the items we touch, and the food and drinks we consume. Our body chemistry and DNA is altered and our inner energy fields are affected – to the point of damaging critical parts of the very detox systems (such as liver enzymes) that are supposed to detoxify them. By implementing use the use of an infrared sauna session into your weekly routine you can help your body ride itself of these devastating toxins.
What is infrared heat?
Infrared light is the invisible part of the Sun’s spectrum, which has the ability to easily penetrate human tissue. When this happens, it creates a natural resonance, which has many beneficial properties. You can be exposed to far infrared heat for hours and it will never cause your skin to burn. Far infrared heat is completely healthy and safe for all living things. In fact, it is so safe it is used in hospitals to warm newborn infants. And unlike sunbathing, infrared heat therapy will never expose you to dangerous solar radiation.
Is there anyone who shouldn't sweat?
Pregnant women cannot sweat (although its safe after the baby is born!). If you have a chronic condition that makes you sensitive to temperature, we recommend checking with your doctor before booking a session. We recommend checking with your doctor if you have recently had an injury and/or undergone surgery. If you have hemophilia we do not recommend sweating. If you are on any medications please check with your doctor (especially if you are on blood thinners). If you have been advised to stay away from heat or have any concerns regarding medical conditions, please talk to your doctor.

There are no risks associated with sweating for individuals with average health. If you are worried, please consult your doctor before booking a sweat.
Why do I need to go into an infrared sauna pod when I can just use the sauna at the gym?
Unlike traditional saunas, Infrared Saunas penetrate your body at a cellular level while traditional saunas only heat the air around you. By penetrating human tissue deep below the skin, radiant heat activates an abundance of natural healing properties. Infrared heat has been found seven times more effective than traditional saunas at detoxifying the body.
Does infrared technology interfere with implants (metal, silicone, etc.)?
Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using an infrared sauna.
How many calories can I burn?
Far Infrared Saunas are a healthy weight loss solution without exercising. Infrared Saunas burn 400-600 calories in just one 35-minute session. In a Far Infrared Sauna, a moderately fit person can sweat one pound of sweat in a 30-minute session; the equivalent of running 2-3 miles.
How do you burn calories while sweating?
Infrared saunas have been proven to aid in weight loss by heating your core temperature and increasing metabolic rate. Increases in blood flow and heart rate are a result, which, much like moderate exercise, helps you burn calories.
Will I be losing water weight?
Yes, and this will be regained upon hydration. But the calories you burned are real!
How often should I sweat?
This is different for each individual! We recommend 1-3 sessions per week.
How long will it take for my core temperature to cool down to normal?
It could take up to an hour for you to return to your regular body temperature (one plus is you are still burning calories while this cool down is taking place).

How many times a day can I sweat?
We only allow one 35 minute session per day.
Can I bring my kids?
Only those who are sweating can be in the room during sauna sessions. We also cannot have children left unattended in the lobby at any time. Please make alternative arrangements for childcare if you will be coming in to sweat.

Why do I need to hydrate?
Drinking plenty of water is a top priority. We want you to feel your best. Our bodies need plenty of water to function optimally. Our standard session is 35 minutes. If you make a session too long, your body has to work harder than it really needs to, without an increase in benefits.

Yes, they are. You will be in the privacy of your own luxurious room.
Can I sweat with someone else?
No
Why do you use a pod rather than an infrared box sauna?
We feel the pod is much more comfortable. You are able to breathe room temperature air which makes it more tolerable while still getting the benefits on your face. Clients who suffer from asthma and other respiratory issues are able to use the pod. The session time is shorter because it doesn’t take as long to heat since it is a small space.
Can/Should I shower after my session?
We actually recommend not showering immediately after your session as you continue to sweat out toxins. If you still choose to, recommend only a very quick hot shower allow your pores to stay open.
Is it sanitary?
Yes, we provide clean towels and sanitize the pod after every client/use. Infrared light also kills all bacteria and any airborne germs or fungus. Many medical devices are actually sanitized using infrared light. We pride ourselves with keeping a clean and relaxing environment.
What do you clean the beds with?
We use a non-toxic cleaner after each sweat session. We also replace all towels, so your sweat doesn’t touch anyone and you don’t touch anybody else’s.
What does it feel like during the session?
The first twenty minutes of your sweat session will feel warm and cozy. Most people feel extremely relaxed, maybe even sleepy. The last 10 minutes of the session are more challenging. In that time, your heart rate will likely increase and you will notice that you are sweating much more.
How will I feel afterwards?
Immediately after your session you may feel like you just finished a workout, however 30 minutes later you will feel refreshed and rested. You may feel a boost in your energy and mood. Oh and get ready to sleep like a baby that evening! Keep in mind- just like a workout some sweats will feel better than others.
What should I do after my sweat session?
Be sure to replenish the water you sweat out during your session. We recommend waiting 30 minutes before showering and putting on any lotions, liquids, creams, etc. until your pores close up.
Will my face receive benefits even though it's not in the pod?
Yes it will. Infrared heat benefits happen because your core temperature rises and is not based on where the sauna is covering you.
