What is SCULPTRA® Aesthetic?

SCULPTRA® Aesthetic is a FDA-approved injectable used to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds. SCULPTRA® Aesthetic is made with biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material called Poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments.

Slate Medspa is the premier SCULPTRA® Aesthetic provider in NJ. We use the most advanced techniques to provide a results-oriented skin rejuvenation program. New to Slate Medspa? Call us today at 201-712-0222 to schedule a free consultation and save 20% off your first treatment.

How does SCULPTRA® Aesthetic work?

Throughout your adult life, your body slows collagen production — an underlying cause of facial aging. By age 40, most people have up to 20% collagen loss. SCULPTRA® Aesthetic encourages the formation of new collagen to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds over time. Results can last more than two years.

What are the differences between SCULPTRA® Aesthetic and Hyaluronic-Acid Fillers like Juvéderm?

Fillers such as Juvederm are liquid gel substances that diminish lines by pushing up the dermis space beneath wrinkles and creases. Results appear immediately and can last up to several months.

As a collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic is different. Sculptra Aesthetic is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) Collagen Stimulator used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. As the Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds. Results appear gradually over the treatment regime (typically three injections over the course of three to four months) and can last up to two years or more.

Benefits of SCULPTRA® Aesthetic:

  • Stimulates your own body to rebuild lost collagen in treated areas
  • Smooth moderate to severe lines and wrinkles
  • Adds volume to shallow or hallow areas like the cheeks
  • Creates contour, often lost with aging in the midface
  • Can last over 2 years
  • Anti-aging benefits
  • Safe for all skin types

What to expect from a SCULPTRA® Aesthetic Treatment

Our certified SCULPTRA® Aesthetic injector will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you. The specialist injects treatment within the deep dermis, where strands of collagen support your skin’s structure. Over time, Sculptra Aesthetic helps the body reproduce lost collagen. On average, three injection appointments are needed over a period of a few months. The number of injection appointments and the number of injections per appointment vary from person to person, depending on how much collagen has been lost in the area.

SCULPTRA® Aesthetic Treatment Aftercare

Some swelling and redness may be expected immediately after treatment.  In some cases, the injection site may also have bruising. Using arnica gel also helps to minimize any bruising which could occur 3-7 days post treatment.

  1. Within the first 24 hours of treatment, apply a cloth-wrapped cold pack to the treated area for a few minutes at a time. Never apply ice directly to the skin.
  2. Massage the treated area for five minutes five times a day for five days after treatment.
  3. Use sunscreen protection and avoid excessive sunlight and UV lamp exposure until any initial swelling and redness go away.

Remember, you won’t see dramatic improvement immediately after treatment. Sculptra Aesthetic works subtly, improving facial areas gradually without making it look like you’ve had work done. To achieve full results, be sure to keep any follow-up appointments in your treatment series.

Most clients typically need 3 to 4 treatments, about four to six weeks apart. Most clients only need minimal maintenance every 18-24 months to keep their desired results.

SCULPTRA® FAQ

What areas can SCULPTRA® Aesthetic treat?

Sculptra Aesthetic is used to correct shallow to deep wrinkles and folds on the face. Administered with the appropriate injection technique from a trained specialist, Sculptra Aesthetic is clinically approved for:

  • Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), also called “smile lines”
  • Lines framing the mouth (marionette lines)
  • Chin wrinkles

Sculptra Aesthetic can also be used off label for cheek volume as well as adding volume to the buttocks.

How many treatments of SCULPTRA® Aesthetic are required?

On average, a series of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months may be needed. The number of injections at each session will vary, depending on the degree of correction needed and the treatment plan determined by you and your specialist.

How soon will I see results?

Sculptra Aesthetic is designed to give you noticeable results that emerge gradually and can last more than two years.* Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see immediate results. A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before treatment. This is normal and temporary. The Sculptra Aesthetic regimen delivers its full effects with an average of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Because results happen gradually, you’ll see subtle, yet noticeable, results in the reduction of facial wrinkles and folds by comparing images before treatment and a couple months following treatment.**

How soon after treatment can I wear makeup?

If there are no complications, you may apply makeup several hours after treatment.

Is SCULPTRA® Aesthetic Safe? What are the side effects?

Sculptra Aesthetic is FDA approved in the United States and has been used worldwide since 1999. Sculptra Aesthetic is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches.

Since Sculptra Aesthetic does not contain any human or animal components, no allergy testing is needed prior to treatments.

Side effects reported include injection site pain, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching and lumps, bleeding or swelling. Small bumps under the skin can sometimes be noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, with or without inflammation, have also been reported.

Who can inject SCULPTRA® Aesthetic?

Specialists such as the practitiioners at Slate Medspa who have been trained to inject Sculptra Aesthetic and are licensed to practice within the state may administer treatment. This can include physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses.

Galderma offers an extensive training program to ensure proper injection technique and aftercare which are crucial to optimizing patient outcomes.

Training sessions are led by experienced Sculptra Aesthetic specialists around the country, offering a unique opportunity for dermatologists, plastic surgeons and facial plastic surgeons to learn from their peers in a hands-on forum.

The training program undergoes continuous observation and refinement as the number of trained specialists grows. The goal is to help optimize patient outcomes.

How much does SCULPTRA® Aesthetic Cost?

There are several factors that figure into how much treatment will cost, including:

  • Number of treatment sessions needed
  • Number of Sculptra Aesthetic vials used per session
  • Degree of necessary correction determined by you and your specialist
  • Discounts and special offers
  • Geographic market

Since injection costs will vary from person to person, the best way to determine projected costs is to visit with your doctor. Average total facial treatment package costs can range from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on many factors, including those listed above. Off label treatment packages such as Buttock Enhancement may cost more.

Comparing the cost of facial rejuvenation options can be challenging, because so much depends on desired results, the amount of product your doctor recommends, your response to treatment and the amount of time results last.

A facial filler treatment that lasts up to three to six months may cost less up front than one that lasts much longer, but it will generally require additional treatment sessions to maintain the effect for the same duration as one longer-lasting treatment. You may want to consider the total cost over time.

Coupon or rebate programs through Galderma and/or a specialist may be available from time to time. It’s a good idea to ask your specialist if there’s a discount program available at the time of consultation.
